An accountant is responsible for applying accepted accounting principles and procedures to analyse financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures.

Job Description
- Execute all financial accounting duties for Cash management, Accounts Receivable, Inventory, Sales, Purchase and Accounts Payable.
- Prepare asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
- Compute taxes owed and prepare tax returns, ensuring compliance with payment, reporting and other tax requirements.
- Analyse business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations, to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice.
- Make relevant recommendations to the management based on analysis and status of reserves, assets and expenditures.
- Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
- Prepare payments by verifying documentation, and requesting disbursements.
- Conform to accounting procedure standards by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations.
- Comply with all financial legal requirements by keeping up-to-date with legislations, enforce adherence to requirements, and advise management on needed actions.
- Prepare special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends; Summarize financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports.
- Maintains client confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Substantiates financial transactions by auditing documents.
- Reconciles financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
Requirements
- Have relevant years of accounts processes working experience
- Strong analytical skills with attention to details
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices and principles
- Knowledge of auditing practices and principles
- Knowledge of applicable laws, codes and regulations
- Knowledge and experience of accounting computer applications - MS Excel, Pastel and Sage
- Usually a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the management of financial systems and budgets, financial reporting, financial data analysis, auditing, taxation and providing financial advice
- BA/bsc Degree in Accounting or a related field.
- Accounting certification is an added advantage
