 Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria (REAN) is an independent, non-profit industry association dedicated to promoting the growth and development of the renewable energy sector in Nigeria. REAN engages with both the public and private sectors to guide advocacy, policy formulation, and investment in the sector. Their vision is to promote strategies that will improve the contribution of renewable energy up to forty per cent (40%) of the National Energy Mix by 2030. REAN is located in Abuja.

Job Title:  Communications Officer 

Location: Abuja

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Communications Officer at the Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria. The Communications Officer will be responsible for creating press releases, managing communication with stakeholders, developing and executing strategic communications, managing media relations, and writing.


Job Responsibilities

1. Program Communications for Advocacy and Awareness: 

  • Work closely with the secretariat team to ensure that relevant program materials such as renewable energy stories, donor reports, proposals, factsheets, infographics etc., are developed and disseminated to donors and target groups through relevant media and network channels. 
  •  Assist REAN secretariat/program team in the proposal development stage to identify appropriate communication activities for the projects. 


2. Media Relations: 


  •  Develop and maintain contact information, materials and relationships with journalists and media outlets (print, TV, radio, web etc.) within and outside REAN to increase coverage of sector issues in the media (print, broadcast and digital). 
  • Draft and edit articles, press releases, renewable energy stories, and other campaign/information materials. 
  • Collaborate with the media; facilitate photo coverage and utilizing both web-based and traditional media as appropriate. 
  •  Monitor and evaluate the use and effectiveness of media materials. Maintain a library of media coverage, clippings etc. 


3. Digital Communications/Social Media: 


  • Maintain REAN’s website and social media sites (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube) such as daily monitoring, posting and content development. 


4. Brand and Communications: 


  • Ensure timely and quality production of advocacy and branding materials such as supplements, calendars, briefing notes, RE stories, picture stories, videos. etc. 

  •  Develop and archive communication materials, including digital, such as publications, press releases and clippings, photographs, audio-visual materials, web resources etc. 


5. Monitoring and Evaluation: 


  • Monitor and evaluate impact of communication materials and advocacy events/campaigns to target audience. 


6. Partnership Spotlights: 


  • Create content that shines a light on collaborative efforts between UNICEF Nigeria and its partners, emphasizing mutual goals and achievements. 


7. Working Relationships: 

  •  Work closely with the Executive Secretary on a daily basis. 
  •  Maintain close interaction with the Secretariat staff and EXCO, and with external media. 


Values and Ethics: 


  •  Possessed high level of integrity, accountability, and punctuality. 
  •  Demonstrate and be exemplary in portraying REAN values and ethics. 


Minimum Qualification and Other Requirements: 


  • Bachelor Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations and/or a related field. 
  • At least 2-5 years of relevant experience is required. 
  • Demonstrated and extensive social media experience is an added advantage. 


 Required Competencies & Skills: 


Excellent written and oral English communication skills. 


Possessed working knowledge of MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Publisher). 


 Skilled in design and adept in using Corel Draw, Photoshop, and other graphic software. 


 Skilled in production of reports, short videos for campaign and events. 


 Possessed knowledge on clean energy and the sector at large. 


Demonstrated and extensive social media experience is an added advantage.


Additional Qualifications

  • Press Releases and Writing skills
  • Experience in Communication and Strategic Communications
  • Media Relations skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field
  • Experience in renewable energy or sustainability fields is a plus
  • Experience working with the Nigerian energy sector is a plus
