Role Description
The School Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the financial health of the school. They ensure effective financial planning, budgeting, accounting, and reporting while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and policies. The role requires collaboration with school leadership, staff, and external stakeholders to support the school’s financial sustainability and strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Management & Planning:
· Develop and manage the school's annual budget in coordination with leadership.
· Monitor financial performance, analyze variances, and implement corrective actions.
· Provide financial forecasts and reports to support strategic decision-making.
· Oversee cash flow management to ensure liquidity and operational efficiency.
2. Accounting & Compliance:
· Maintain accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and school policies.
· Prepare financial statements, reports, and audits in line with regulatory requirements.
· Ensure tax compliance, including payroll taxes, VAT, and other statutory obligations.
· Reconciling the company’s bank statements and bookkeeping ledgers
· Filing and remitting taxes and other financial obligations
· Develop and enforce internal financial controls to prevent fraud and mismanagement.
3. Payroll & Staff Payments:
· Process payroll and ensure accurate payment of salaries, benefits, and deductions.
· Maintain records of employee contracts, pensions, and other entitlements.
· Ensure timely remittance of statutory deductions such as social security and taxes.
4. Revenue & Fee Management:
· Oversee the collection of tuition fees and other school-related charges.
· Implement efficient billing and fee payment tracking systems.
· Manage scholarships, and discounts while ensuring transparency.
5. Procurement & Expense Control:
· Oversee purchasing processes, ensuring cost-effectiveness and value for money.
· Monitor and control school expenditures to stay within budget.
· Manage vendor contracts and negotiate favorable terms.
6. Financial Reporting & Communication:
· Present financial reports to the Director
· Advise leadership on financial risks and opportunities.
· Communicate financial policies and procedures to staff and parents when necessary.
7. Risk Management & Asset Oversight:
· Manage the school's assets, ensuring proper documentation and maintenance.
· Identify financial risks and implement mitigation strategies.
Qualifications & Skills:
Must have:
· Degree in Finance, or Accounting
· Minimum of 2 years of experience in financial management, preferably in the education sector.
· Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and tax laws.
· Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
· Strong leadership and communication abilities.
· High ethical standards and attention to detail.
· Experience with accounting software and data entry
· Excellent understanding of accounting rules and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
· Advanced knowledge and experience with spreadsheets and specifically Excel
· Ability to work independently
Desirable:
· Professional qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CIMA) is preferred.
· Experience working in a school or similar organization
